Block Club Chicago This South Shore Initiative Aims To Get Neighbors Invested In Projects Along 71st Street
July 09, 2025Last week, Block Club Chicago, highlighted the planning efforts in South Shore for the 71st Street Corridor. The article highlights our CorridorLive! framework. For the past two years, the Desk has been working with the South Shore Chamber of Commerce, Community Development Corp. to implement the framework in South Shore.
CorridorLive! is intended to bring a comprehensive approach to the redevelopment of commercial corridors in urban communities to create the appropriate “experience” for their community. Key elements of our framework include:
- a lead agency
- a development and activation strategy
- coordinated capital
- an implementation team
The South Shore CDC is leading the effort for the community. Perkins & Will along with SB Friedman and Blue Daring are supporting the development of the corridor strategy.
We have an ambitious plan to implement a $28M strategy to transform the corridor that fosters local ownership of community assets, brings more small businesses to the street, reduces blight and promotes a higher quality of life for residents with better products and services within walking distance.
